Huangguoshu Waterfall

The last destination on our list was Huangguoshu Pubu. This place is well known by the Chinese and is one of the largest waterfalls in China. They also did a Monkey King movie here a long time ago, so they have statues of monkeys, the master, and the three disciples along one of the falls (as you'll see below). Since it's spring time, the water is pretty low, but apparently it becomes massive in the summer. The place is beautiful and we had a little fun climbing up one of the smaller falls. For the largest fall, there's a path underneath the falls that people can walk through.

The Monkey King and his monkey followers.

Pig (Bajie)... doing his thing.

They had stepping stones for everyday of the year and a historical figure that was born on that date. Apparently, I share the same birthday as Sun Yat-sen: the founding father of modern China.

Supposed to be a lion.

I think these people were also Miaozu. There were quite a few selling stuff on the side.

Probably won't make it to the big falls with that one.

There was also a random cave along the way. The cave was pretty big, but they had a bunch of colored lights lighting up the side of the caves (which I'm not a huge fan of, but is pretty popular).

This is the biggest of the falls.

Going under.

We're back in Guiyang, and this was a small part of the city. Supposed to be an old town.

I don't know if you can see him... but the Monkey is coming.

Yeah, probably not...

Reminded me of what we used to make all the time, but it was no where as good as ours.

On a Quest to Find a Dragon (Chinese New Year and Some Lights)

I spent much of the Chinese New Year on a train and a bus, and the last day of the New Years was spent in Zhenyuan. This town had a lot of historical significance during the second world war. We stopped by a few historical places.

Zhang Kaishek... Let's not say anything about this guy. My Chinese friends don't say very nice things about him.

These buildings next to the river... it's pretty beautiful. Most of the rivers and lakes in China, that I've seen, have this green color to it. They're not like the rivers and lakes in Minnesota at all, but they're pretty anyways.

Some snack we had.

We started our quest to find the dragon pool, on bikes... that dude is the my new Chinese friend that I met randomly.

We had to cross rivers...

Just an interesting picture.

He said... 'to help hold up the rock' and handed me a stick. It was pretty hilarious.

It was raining from the rocks.

Dragon Pool?

This is supposed to be the dragon pool. They say it's supposed to be more than 300 meters deep and the water comes from underground. Unfortunately, there wasn't a dragon, but it was still quite beautiful.

Next to the Dragon Pool, we saw this. Quite sad to see such beautiful creatures killed.

These fish and crabs came from the streams in the area.

This lady was a Miaozu, she and her son were selling a bunch of stuff next to the dragon pool. They were the only ones around.

My lunch. Fish from the Dragon Pool's waters.

We got back to the room after a long walk with a broken bike. Quite the view we got outside our window.

I've never had a bowl of noodles as good as this.

We climbed up the side of the mountain to view the city from the top. It was quite the workout, I was sweating buckets.

It was beautiful, everyone was eating and just having a good time. There were a few Lanterns flying in the sky and lotus candles floating in the river (sadly I couldn't get a good shot at them).
