So I returned to Chengdu earlier than expected and was just bored to death, because we're still on break and no one is here. I decided to go on another trip, but because I couldn't find anyone else to go with me I just went alone. It was a little lonely, but I eventually found a Chinese guy who was also traveling by himself for the holidays to travel with. The first place I went to was a village called Miaozhai in Guizhou. This was supposed to be the largest village of Miao people in China.
The train that I took this time was a sleeping train. The ride took about 12 hours to Guiyang which is the capital city of Guizhou Province and started at 7PM. This time was super convenient because I could just sleep the whole ride and wake up in Guiyang, which was very unlike the last train ride experience I had where I had to sit for 12 hours and literally didn't sleep at all for the whole night. I really do enjoy these sleeping trains, and probably would never sit on a train ever again if I didn't have to.
These photos are just what I took from walking around the village. I think the entrance fee was like 100RMB, which is a little under 20USD. Definitely a cool place.
Hey... these things look pretty familiar...
Lady making that smashed rice cake thingy...
This one isn't actual silver, but just a decoration for people who want to play dress up.
Them just displaying their thing for people to see.
Rice fields, although of course it's spring so it looks like that.
Kids playing in the river next to a watermill. Do notice the red plastic bad and empty box of cigarettes.
Climbing up the side of the mountain to find a place to stay for the night.
The view outside where I was sleeping for the night.
Not supposed to be scary, but you know... just a random little girl all by herself, talking to a basketball.
Bacon on the loose. I was watching this chase from the restaurant window. Reminds me of home.
Our dinner. I was joined by that Chinese dude that I met randomly, so I guess I can't call this a solo trip anymore. As good as my Chinese was (*cough), he really made my life so much easier. I randomly met this guy, told me to call him Zhang, who was taking a taxi to the same place I was. He quickly realized something was wrong with my Chinese.
Here... anyone can play dress-up with Miaozu clothes.
The village at night. Yeah, they have electricity, we live in the 21st century. Although, there are still a lot of people without electricity, so I can't really say that.
Bunch of punks blowing up firecrackers everywhere. Okay, okay... It was Chinese New Year time, so they should be doing that even in this village.
Trying to find our way back to the room... Yeah, we got lost. Everything looked exactly the same at night.
That was the end of the trip here. The Miaozu are pretty interesting in the way they live. This was a pretty big village and had a lot of tourism, so the people here are not doing bad at all. If I could I wish I had gone to see a small far off village. Still very beautiful and a good visit.
